As you might have already heard WordPress 2.7 is currently in development and people have already found out one of the major changes soon to come out for release. This major change features a revised navigational layout with a left-hand navigation column that was designed in response to user feedback on the rather poor navigations from writing, managing, design and plugins. Because the navigation came straight from the Crazyhorse prototype that was developed quickly for usability testing, it is still a work in progress.

Navigation sections and labels are still being decided, and as you would expect there are lots of good ideas floating around. The WordPress mission has of late been to increase user involvement, in fact, users are now able to suggest some design decisions. WordPress has even created a survey intended to give users the ability to play a part in deciding how the navigation options should be developed (grouped and labelled). If you are a user of WordPress and want to have your opinion heard, take the survey.

However, with a quick Google search there are already many navigational plugins that can move the tabs to the left side as the new update soon will. So if your not one to wait or don’t like to upgrade to a new version straight away this could be a nice alternative.
