WordPress 2.5.1

You might say that you just upgraded to WordPress 2.5 but WordPress team announced that 2.5.1 is available for download. An immediate update is recommended, if your blog has open registration.

New release has a security fix which is not public yet and over 70 bug fixes. If you don’t want to upgrade your blog, you can download corrected copies of wp-includes/pluggable.php, wp-admin/includes/media.php, and wp-admin/media.php and replace theme with the old ones.

Here are the fixes for new release

  • Performance improvements for the Dashboard, Write Post, and Edit Comments pages.
  • Better performance for those who have many categories
  • Media Uploader fixes
  • An upgrade to TinyMCE 3.0.7
  • Widget Administration fixes
  • Various usability improvements
  • Layout fixes for IE

New people over WPCandy

A while back I purchased two more (travel and WordPress related) domains that I was thinking to use on my different projects. I don’t know why, but I guess I missed the fact of being a part-time blogger while buying those domains. Honestly, the time I spend here for gabfire is not long enough. I am not sure if I will have enough time to run 2 blogs at the same time.

Daniel has listed 10 things to consider before starting a new blog. He has placed the time as a first matter. To be frank, I could not agree more with the things he mentioned in his article.

Needless to speak about the challenges and benefits of multi-author blogs. Wpcandy was one of those blogs until the day Michael Cromarty left the team. Jeff Chadler was alone for a while, but now it seems that WPcandy is standing up again with their new crew Jeff, Dan and Ptah.

Did you really reset everything?

Every browser has different margin and padding values that are set as default. Thats why we prefer to reset all values before building up a site. Most of people add,

* {margin:0; padding:0; border:0}

to the top of their CSS file to reset everything. But do you really thing that it is enough to reset everything? Use following code block on the top of your CSS file and see what else you’ve missed to reset.

Nokia massive battery recall

Nokia found a problem on their BL-5C model batteries that has been produced between 2005 and 2006. Company announced, that 46 million batteries (out of 300 million) has over heating problem that occurs whether while device is connected to charger or a network connection is established.

If you have such a problem, you can request a new battery over internet.

Go on inspire me

upcoming themes
The success of WordPress Magazine Theme kept me busy for a while as I had to answer all emails and deal with all different requests of each user untill today. I guess it will go same for a while more. Before I forget, it is downloaded over 1600 times till today, and download number is increasing day by day.

Instead of adding some extra features (that people were asking) to WordPress Magazine theme, I decided to keep it as simple as clean it is and work on a different magazine style theme.
