One of the most essential part of having a site is to keep backups. How do you protect your content against a server crash*? Nothing is more valuable than your content. For that reason you have to take a backup of your site periodically.

Note that, we didn’t get in deep details, what we wrote below is only a scratch on surface. However, since all the basic steps has been covered, you should figure out how to get your backup and even restore your site.

1. Blogger
Deliver your entries to your inbox: Blogsend feature of blogger, automatically sends each of your blog posts to your email address. You can create a folder, or label as in gmail and collect all your blog posts in once place.

Back up your entire blog as a single file: Blogger help provides a tutorial how to back up your entire blog as a single file to your computer.

2. WordPress
Through admin interface: Log in your administration page. Click on Manage > Export > Dowload Export file. Thats all. Yes you read correct, thats all, no more steps to take (:

Backup with phpMyAdmin: phpMyAdmin (most of hosting companies provides it) is a web based application, that lets you to easily handle your databases. This tool also allows you to edit data in the database.

With phpMyAdmin, you can export entire database, or only the tables. If you are going to create your database manualy while restoring it back, then export only tables. In that case you will need to select your database from the dropdown menu from the left column on main page (or simply click on databases link in main frame). After selecting your database click on export link for exporting the tables. You will be presented with the export screen. Make your settings same as in this picture.

Once you click on GO, you immediately will be prompted to save back up file to your local computer.

3. Typepad
Typepad allows you to create a text file that will contain your posts, comments and Trackbacks. Typepad also lets you to save your data as OPML file.

4. Third party backup tools
Blogbackuponline is an online tool that takes daily backup of your blog posts and allows you to download it as Blogger, LiveJournal, Windows Live Spaces or WordPress database file. If you are planing to immigrate your blog platform from one type to another one, Blogbackuponline would be very handy.
